One of the writer's group that I belong to is divided between literary and genre fiction. Sometimes we struggle to understand one another's writing style. Jennifer Ellis provides a little perspective. Interestingly enough, the genre writers are also academics. Is this coincidental, or a sign of something we can't put our finger on? Is it because genre is more formulaic, something academics are more accustomed to? I like to think that both are wonderful, like colors. Blue is not better than yellow. They are just different. I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on this.
