Positions of Trust is a compelling crime novel that commands attention from cover to cover. Meeting Robert Kerins in real life and having him sign my copy revealed a kind, deeply intelligent man who has clearly witnessed a great deal through his career. That real-world experience as a retired officer from the Buffalo region grounds the narrative entirely, especially as investigator Alec Theron fights a decades-old smuggling ring along the border. I found myself reading through it much quicker than most books because the suspense—right up to the climactic clash in the rushing water near Niagara Falls—is exceptionally strong. A wonderful, fast-moving read from a wonderful author.

Robert Kerins is a retired police officer and lieutenant who served for over 20 years, investigating a wide range of cases from welfare fraud to abandoned children. Following his law enforcement career, he spent 15 years working in disaster relief—work that took him to various parts of the U.S., including Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan—before retiring from that field in 2008 to focus on writing. He lives in Lewiston, New York, with his wife.
As an author, he is best known for writing crime fiction and police procedurals that frequently feature recurring characters like detectives Alec Theron and Orson “Orca” Sanders. Some of his other published titles include Cuckoo, Fatal Lesson, Deadly Mist, Tourist Trap, and Deliver Them from Evil.
